EMI Gaskets & Shielding

What are EMI Gaskets?

EMI gaskets are used in many electronic devices that require shielding. These types of gaskets were previously only found in radio communication and military equipment, but as new equipment is made and the world changes we are finding an increase in EMI radiation in a variety of electronic equipment. Therefore we are seeing an increase in demand for these types of gaskets.

They function by establishing a conductive path along seams and other openings in an electronic enclosure. The created covering then blocks potential difference across the shield surface and establishes a smooth current flow. Picture this, imagine the gaskets are like patches on the sail on a mast so that it can work properly. In this case the gaskets plug up the holes so that EMI radiation does not interfere with the operation.

To summarize, the primary functions of EMI gaskets are to:

  • Isolate sensitive equipment from potential sources of EMI
  • Reduce the amount of EMI leaking into or out of an equipment enclosure

Choosing an EMI Gasket

When choosing an EMI gasket for an electrical or electronic application, material is a key factor to keep in mind. We strongly recommend contacting us and letting our world class sales team aid you. EMI gaskets are available in a variety of materials, each offering unique properties that differ from application to application.

Seal & Design is a provider of electrically and thermally conductive materials which offer a wide range of EMI shielding to global electronics companies. Typical EMI shielding gasket materials include ferrites, silicone, fluorosilicone, and EPDM.

We offer a large range of Halogen Free EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) and RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) shielding products. EMI is any frequency of electrical noise and RFI is a subgroup within EMI frequencies. Our products range from Fabric Over Foam (equivalent to discontinued chromerics 5000), conductive foams and tapes. Contact Us for more information and a quote.
