Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) Gasketing Products

Gasket & O-Ring Products

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene that has numerous applications. It is also known by the common trade name TEFLON™, trademark owned by The Chemours Company FC. PTFE can be modified for use as a gasketing material with strong chemical resistance properties. It can also be machined or molded into almost any shape.

PTFE GASKETING MATERIAL - INERTEX

The INERTEX® family of gasket sheets are produced by a proprietary expansion process which generates a highly fibrillated microstructure with nearly equal tensile strength in every direction. This unique structure maximizes performance predictability and stability while minimizing creep and cold flow.

PTFE GASKETING MATERIAL - GARLOCK GYLON

Garlock GYLON® gasketing is a family of flat PTFE gasketing materials. GYLON® high-performance PTFE gasketing is manufactured using a proprietary process that imparts unique physical properties, which are not obtainable through conventional manufacturing methods: Designed for severe chemical service, color-coded for easy identification, superior sealability, which helps reduce process and media loss as well as fugitive emissions, reduced creep and cold flow characteristics, and patented thermal bonding process to fabricate virtually any size gasket.

PTFE GASKETING MATERIAL - THERMOSEAL

Thermoseal’s line of PTFE gasketing materials include the tc, Top Chem, Soft Chem, and SEALX lines.

PTFE GASKETING MATERIAL - DURLON 9000

Durlon® 9000 and 9000N are designed for applications where resistance to highly aggressive chemicals is required. Available in unpigmented white as style 9000N. Both styles 9000 and 9000N, (including branding) conform to FDA requirements.

PTFE O-RINGS

PTFE is a superior O-Ring material not affected by most chemicals. It can be used at temperatures up to 500°F (260°C). It has the lowest coefficient of friction of any solid material. Lubrication is less critical and can sometimes be omitted.

PTFE ENCAPSULATED O-RINGS

PTFE is a superior O-Ring material not affected by most chemicals. It can be used at temperatures up to 500°F (260°C). It has the lowest coefficient of friction of any solid material. Lubrication is less critical and can sometimes be omitted.

Elastomers such as silicone or Viton® can be coated in a PTFE sheath for added chemical resistance while maintaining maximum flexibility. These rings are often used in food & pharmaceutical, chemical, and petrochemical industries where strong chemical resistance and hygiene are required.

Description

Temp. Range

FEP

Viton

This choice gives the best possible sealing characteristics due to the very low compression set value of the specially formulated Viton® core. Unless there are extreme high or low temperature involved, Viton® core should be the first choice.

-4° to 400°F
(-20 to 204°C)

PFA

Viton

The advantage of this combination is the extra abrasion resistance of the PFA jacket.

FEP

Silicone

Whilst technically inferior to Viton® as a seal material, Silicone does have the ability to work at lower temperatures than Viton®.

-76° to 400°F
(-60 to 204°C)

PFA

Silicone

Silicone combined with Pfa has a very flexible temperature range, especially at the higher end.

-76° to 500°F
(-60 to 260°C)

FEP

Hollow Silicone

Used in applications where low loading requirements are necessary, i.e. glassware or similar delicate equipment. The seal compresses easier than a solid core ring.
